Our Catholic Mission

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Jesus Christ is at the heart of everything we do. Our faith shapes our learning, relationships and daily lives.

We believe every child is unique and loved by God. Working in partnership with families and our parish, we nurture children to grow in faith, develop their God-given gifts and become caring, confident individuals.

We welcome children and families from all backgrounds, promoting inclusion, mutual respect and a strong sense of belonging.

Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are central to life at St Mary’s. Through daily prayer, Collective Worship, celebrations of the Word and Mass, children develop their relationship with God and reflect on the teachings of Jesus.

Our approach encourages children to talk together as a community of God’s people and pray together as a worshipping community.

Religious Education

Religious Education is a core part of our curriculum, with 10% of curriculum time dedicated to RE.

Our curriculum follows the Religious Education Directory, To Know You More Clearly, using the Lighting the Path scheme. Children explore Scripture, the teachings of Jesus, the Sacraments and the Catholic faith.

We also learn about other faiths and beliefs, encouraging curiosity, understanding and respect for the diverse world in which we live.

Catholic Social Teaching

We encourage our children to put their faith into action by following the example of Jesus. Through our curriculum and everyday actions, pupils learn about compassion, justice, service, stewardship and the dignity of every person.

Through charitable fundraising, community projects and caring for creation, children discover how they can make a positive difference. We use resources including CAFOD, Caritas and Mission Together to support this learning.

Sacraments and Our Community

In Year 3, children who have been baptised prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This special journey is supported by school, families and our parish.

Our strong links with our parish priest, families and wider community help bring our Catholic mission to life. Through service, kindness and respect, we encourage every child to grow in faith and follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

At St Mary’s, we aspire not to have more, but to be more.
